Deacons have a rich and noble heritage in the church.
It was a family-related need which called them into being, namely, the economic needs of widows in the early church (Acts 6:1-7).
These seven laymen, who worked with the apostles in meeting this need, were the first deacons.
Whether false teaching or disunity, something always seems to be threatening the downfall of the local church.
Deacons are the front line defense to protecting the congregation and ensuring the Gospel is proclaimed no matter what
temptations or trials come against the church.
Deacons should provide a biblical example of love, character and service for the church to follow.
